Roller Skating and Runner

My final laser tag stop of this trip was to Minerva Skate and Fun Center in Minerva, OH. As soon as I arrived and met the new owners (as of September), Mike and Jen. I knew I had found kindred spirits. How? Well, I was wearing my shirt that says “I play laser tag to burn off the crazy” and Mike told me he has a skating shirt with a nearly identical sentiment! That and he also told me he used to be an LQ player, so clearly there is a shared appreciation for laser tag. :)

With a love of roller skating, Mike and Jen took over this facility less than three months ago. Their main attraction is the skating rink, however they do have ideas for enhancing the laser tag arena as well. I looked forward to seeing what they had in place already and Mike pointed me towards the downstairs arena where we vested up.

They are currently operating with Lazer Runner (and the new phaser style, which I enjoy) and we put together a fun, 3v3 game.

It appears that this may have previously been a Tron arena, from the looks of things.

But one look at the bases and you can see it is a completely different animal now. I really liked the sleeker look of this wall-mounted base point…and I repeatedly tagged it because I love setting off the loud “alarm” sound…over and over and over…

At one point I became aware of a few kids watching the game from this observation window.

This was probably my favorite part, watching the kids engaged in watching and loudly cheering us on from the other side of the wall!

I fully recognize that skating is the primary attraction here, but it is so nice to see Lazer Runner represented with an archway…

And this cool character who, up until this point, I had only seen at their booth at IAAPA…which coincidentally is the next trip on my horizon.

So I thanked them for the hospitality and set out for the EXCELLENT Mexican food restaurant next door before calling it a night and completing a really great weekend tag trip through Pennsylvania and Ohio. :)
